Blinded by the Scenery - 05.03.2021

Blinded by the Scenery is the second single from the upcoming self-titled EP by Berlin based, ‘The Flavians’.

Written while the band was touring in the UK in 2019, the latest single takes a diversion from their signature mellow, nostalgic sounds, on a journey down the unknown path of raucous, anthemic indie rock.

Led astray by the energy of the festivals throughout that blissful summer, with a now ironic optimism, Blinded by the Scenery is an unusually uplifting reprise from the melancholy-tinged introspection that the band usually feels most at home in. With soaring vocals, driving guitars and cosmic keyboard zauberkraft (one of which from eBay for 15 Euros), The Flavians piece together one of their most ambitious single releases so far.

Inspired by a William Burrows style ‘cutup’ approach to writing, the lyrics are captured from a variety of unlikely sources. Combining cursory, absurd articles from Daily Mail gossip columns with interviews from international aid workers and stories of war, the band arranged a collection of passages to construct a ‘Hero's Journey’ of redemption, recovery, self-discovery and love.

Mixed by Robbie Moore of Impression Studios, Berlin (Florence & the Machine, Little Simz) and Mastered by Rupert Clervaux, London, the single will be released in March with the EP released in the summer and distributed digitally by AWAL.

About The Flavians

Forming in Berlin in 2017, the band is made up of Swedes Joakim Jägerhult (drums) and Liam Blomqvist (vocals & guitar), Czech, Anna Vaverková (vocals & keys) and Brit, Thomas Wills (vocals & bass). Drawing inspiration from the warm, nostalgic sounds of the Sixties and the frantic, hedonistic energy of Berlin, the band blends three distinct voices with psychedelic guitar textures, barroom piano and pounding drums to create surreal yet grounded, accessible, melodic and experimental songs.

Since their inception, the band has been packing out shows in their adoptive hometown of Berlin with subsequent headline and support tours of Germany with bands such as Catfish and the Bottlemen and Ten Tonnes.

The band also spent the Summer of 2019 with a run of dates at festivals such as Glastonbury and Reeperbahn Festival. In 2020, they independently released their debut album ‘Ordinary People in an Ordinary World’.
